This programme explores the legacy of one of the most lyrical of composers for the oboe: like Schumann, many have been inspired by the warmth and the haunting timbre of the oboe. Taking the Three Romances of both Robert and Clara Schumann as its starting point, this programme travels from the Venetian gondolas of Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words to the hedgerows of Vaughan Williams’ English Folksongs.
