Pembroke College, Cambridge, will present the complete organ works of Bach in 24 hours, performed by female organists. The event, beginning at midday on 18 June, aims to increase the visibility of female organists while exploring Bach’s writing for the organ. Concert organist Dame Gillian Weir is the patron of the event, and will be in attendance throughout.

The event will start with a recital given by Anna Lapwood, director of music at Pembroke College and the first female organ scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford. It will end with a recital given by Rachel Mahon, the first female organ scholar of St Paul’s Cathedral, London. Other participants include Katherine Dienes-Williams, director of music at Guildford Cathedral; Sarah MacDonald, director of music at Selwyn College, Cambridge; Libby Burgess, the first female organ scholar at Christ Church, Oxford; and Ellie Carter, the first female organ scholar at Clare College, Cambridge.

The event will be live-streamed on the Pembroke Choir Facebook page. Musicians are encouraged to join in via the hashtag #PlayLikeAGirl, positing videos of themselves playing Bach on social media during the same 24-hour period.
