Brahms A German Requiem
English Chamber Choir
Guy Protheroe conductor
Robyn Allegra Parton soprano
Wesley Biggs baritone
William Vann piano
Libby Burgess piano
Brahms is recognised as the towering figure of late romanticism and in his Requiem we find a pivotal work that reshaped his reputation and career. This performance uses Brahms’ own arrangement for piano duet that was first premiered in London to help bring his music to smaller venues and to a wider audience. The evening finishes with light-hearted arrangements of Gershwin and Cole Porter songs.
