Schubert Piano Quintet in A major ‘The Trout’ D667
Many of Franz Schubert’s evening were spent entertaining a small but influential circle of friends with his music at intimate gatherings. Here we celebrate that tradition with a programme of vocal and chamber music treasures. Amongst other songs in the first half, we will be treated to Die Forelle (The Trout), depicting the darting, moody fish – the ill-fated master of his little brook. He makes a reappearance after the interval in the Trout Quintet, a work which presents Schubert at his most irresistible, dazzling the listener with lithe melodies and rippling rhythms.
